After some performances of Zarzuela, in 1908 he had the opportunity in opera when he was engaged by Lisbon's Teatro Sao Carlos where he sang many parts: Aida, Mefistofele, Samson, Faust, et. al. In 1911 he sang at Rome's Teatro Costanzi, Fanciulla under Toscanini.

As from that moment, we find him in Boston and after one year in New York where he just rested, he made his debut at the Metropolitan where he was to sing in two hundred sixty four performances until the time when he returned to Spain in 1926.

The Spanish most international bass of all times who was an unquestionable star of the Metropolitan in his best recorded renderings.
