After his studies of singing in Barcelona, his debut with Zandonai´s Francesca da Rimini (Trieste, 1919) propelled him to fame and he became tenor for the masses. First of all in Madrid, Teatro Real, with Carmen, and then Rome, Milan, New York and Buenos Aires. Puccini considered him his favourite tenor and in 1926 Fleta sang at the première of this composer´s posthumous opera Turandot. In his later years, with his faculties prematurely dwindling, he sang a great deal in Spain, in particular zarzuela. He died at La Coruña, in the midst of the Civil War.

The first operating integral of Fleta published including arias never issued in CD.
