After a few years of residence
in Denia, in 1895 his family moved to Valencia and then to Madrid.
He studied in the Royal Conservatoire and he was selected to the
Teatro Real's children's choir. In 1909 the family settled down
in Barcelona. He continued his studies in Municipal Conservatoire.
The next year he was engaged as a member of the Gran Teatre del
Liceu choir where he made his debut as Gasparo in Spontini's La
vestale. His performances as second tenor in Barcelona and Madrid
proceeded until 1915. In 1916 he sang Cavaradosi at the Teatro
Espaņol in Barcelona. The following years he performed in South
America, Spain and Italy. In 1924 he appeared in United States
as Enzo in Chicago, where he performed for many years. It was
in America where he was given the name of "Il Piccolo Caruso".
In 1926, he sang Aida in Barcelona. He remains in Spain during
the Civil War and in 1940 he opened a singing school in Valencia.
His professional career ended in Zaragoza in 1950 with Tosca.
He died in Valencia in 1952. We are incorporating to our collection this monographic recording including 53 pieces most of them operatic arias, sung by the famous tenor Antonio Cortis. They are practically all of the Cortis renderings in records. | Back to Home | How to order? | |
