At
the beginning of her career, Huguet maybe did not have the immediate and sensational
success that Barrientos and Graziella Pareto would achieve some time later. In
her first years, we find her in major roles but not the leading ones, and it was
not until the mid of 1890's that her name began to appear on the covers of illustrated
magazines and to acquire international presence. Later
on, Josefina Huguet achieved additional prestige upon having triumphed at the
Academy of Music, of New York, in 1903, and it was probably because of that merit
that she was considered when La Voce del Padrone ("His Master's Voice")
engaged her to make in Milan some opera recordings that have the virtue of being
the first commercial opera recordings ever to be made by a Spanish soprano Josefina Huguet, the first Spanish soprano to make disk recordings. | Back to Home | How to order? | |
